Unveiling of the Jennifer Heil Way

On June 30, 2010 Rona Ambrose, Minister for Public Works and Government Services, Minister for Status of Women, and Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Spruce Grove, attended the unveiling of the Jennifer Heil Way in Spruce Grove.

“I am so proud to be able to be here today as we honour a great Albertan, a Canadian icon, and an inspiration to all of us with the unveiling of Jennifer Heil Way right here in Spruce Grove,” said Min. Ambrose. “ From the playground to the ski hill, the values that we learn from athletes like Jennifer – sportsmanship, discipline, and confidence – are important values for all young athletes, right here in Spruce Grove and across the country.”

Jennifer’s athletic accomplishments resonate strongly with Canadians but most especially with the resident of her hometown, Spruce Grove. In recognition of her sporting achievements, the City of Spruce Grove has named a portion of Campsite Road from Highway 16A north to Highway 16 in the Olympian’s honour.

“As Minister for Status of Women, it makes me especially proud to see young women like Jennifer encourage other young women and girls to pursue their dreams,” said Min. Ambrose. “ It is exciting to think about what a difference women like Jennifer have made and will continue to make, reaching for their dreams and teaching others that our progress as Canadian women is only confined by the boundaries of our imagination.”
