Supporting Aboriginal Women in Edmonton

Today in Edmonton, Minister Ambrose announced a government grant to the Aboriginal Women’s Professional Association for a project entitled Women Helping Women.

The Government of Canada believes that all Aboriginal women deserve the chance to live up to their full potential. This project will help 100 urban Aboriginal women by giving them the support, mentoring, and education they need to develop the necessary skills to improve their own lives. This project will put special emphasis on using indigenous cultural practices, including the wisdom and knowledge of Elders.

This project is one of 60 across Canada that have been selected to receive funding through the Women’s Program of Status of Women Canada. In total, these projects will have a positive impact on the lives of 260,000 women in every part of Canada. They will bring about a real improvement in the opportunities available to women and girls to more fully participate in the life of their communities and their country. These projects will also help thousands of girls and women to reach for their dreams and achieve their true potential.
