OTTAWA — The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today saluted the women "Firsts" speakers at the Famous 5 Ottawa Luncheon.
"When we honour and celebrate women who lead, we are not only showing our gratitude and respect, we are helping to inspire others to take up the challenges of leadership, and make a difference for their communities, for Canada and for the world," said Minister Ambrose. "Today's Famous 5 Ottawa Luncheon panellists are all political 'firsts' — a designation that brings with it the recognition of how extraordinary they are! I join Canadians everywhere in saluting them."
Today's Famous 5 Ottawa luncheon event, sponsored by Enbridge, celebrates "Firsts" with a panel discussion moderated by Maureen McTeer, a recipient of the Governor General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case, and featuring the following panellists:
- the Honourable Catherine Callbeck, Senator, Canada's first elected woman Premier;
- Ms. Deborah Grey, Canada's first woman Leader of the Official Opposition; and
- Ms. Audrey McLaughlin, Canada's first woman leader of a federal political party.
Two or three times a year, Famous 5 Ottawa holds a luncheon event, sponsored by Enbridge, honouring prominent women who lead.
