THORHILD, ALBERTA, May 8, 2009 - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Labour, today visited representatives and members of the International Union of Operating Engineers as part of a tour to promote the benefits of having safe and healthy workplaces.
“Canada’s economic success depends on our having safe, healthy and productive workplaces,” said Minister Ambrose. “The Government of Canada is committed to helping ensure business owners and workers have the tools and resources they need to help our country weather these challenging times and foster prosperity in the future.”
During the visit, Minister Ambrose highlighted the importance of health and safety in keeping Canada’s labour force strong and competitive, as well as recent legislative changes to help prevent injuries and illness in the workplace. These include new violence prevention regulations and ergonomic provisions.
