RIVERDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S NATURESCAPE AND PRAIRIE GRASS LABYRINTH
June 13, 2006
Riverdale Elementary School's Naturescape and Prairie Grass Labyrinth is an outdoor classroom, sustainable landscape and native plant demonstration site. The project took a patch of mowed lawn and reverted it into a life-sustaining habitat. The Naturescape features a native grass labyrinth, an outdoor learning center, raised planting beds, native trees, flowers and shrubs and provides students with a biocide-free venue for learning about Alberta's natural environment. The Naturescape creats a natural habitat, acts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and teaches the school and community to conserve and recycle as part of a made-in-Alberta plan to ensure the sustainability of our environment. We hope that more schools and communities will undertake environmental initiatives such as these. |
