Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement on the resignation from Cabinet of Greg Thompson: “Today, I pay tribute to the service Greg Thompson has given to veterans, the Government of Canada and his country. “As Minister of Veteran Affairs, Greg tirelessly worked to ensure the sacrifices that Canadian Forces personnel make to defend our values are properly recognized and honoured by all Canadians. He was a true champion of our veterans. “In Cabinet and as a parliamentarian, Greg can point proudly to a strong record of achievement. He is universally respected by his colleagues, regardless of political stripe. “It is an honour to call him a colleague. I respect his personal decision and wish him and his family well. “I know he will continue to provide the residents of New Brunswick Southwest with the representation they deserve.” |
